the distance.

by Andrew S Adams

in the distance,
beyond the endless miles of
city streets,
a skyline with
no lights on
leaves the few passing cars
unguided;
and i am somewhere among them,
wandering between invisible
yellow highway lines,
hoping that i'll make it across
to morning.

a single bird
sounds her siren,
a quiet song amplified
by the complete darkness
around her;
she is my only guide

but she has grown silent
in the passing hours
and i am left to weave
through speeding cars
alone.

i know that bird is
still somewhere in
the distance; and
one day, i will find her
again.

This is so quietly lonely... lovely. I completely enjoyed this.
