old folks count

by Charlie Morgan

currency rides the fastest horse
wins another generation by a nose.
he's fresher than other jockeys who
tote an extra 8 years, older bones.

the race a granny-geared gallop of memories
brought to a short life on the home-stretch
and man is busy sewing hemlines on the skirt
of his youth, now frayed by uninmportance.

kicked to the curb, a plastic cup of life
invested in averages: % live; % die; balance
a thought only in God's mind, His menu of chores
a short list. live in the world; be of Me.

"live in the world; be of Me." LOVE the way you paraphrase this thought. I guess that's our journey (those counting ole folks, anyway) at the very heart. With that map to travel by, my particular juncture is; and exactly what/who is this me I'm to be of? and WHY is this world we're to live in so oppositional to that very person and the very way to travel? Really loved this, Chaz.

Ah, yes... I loved stanza 2 and the two closing lines point the way. Well done.

An affirmative "mmm" is my prelude; you captured well the feelings of growing older and how it feels. This goes on my Favs.

I think we are all galloping in this race...towards which finish line though I wonder. You've provoked and inspired me here Chaz, love it! MFS

So many similes, so little time in the grand scheme of His plan. Beautiful Charlie!
