just another facet by Kristina Woodhillword has it
pets and people
are diamonds in the rough
i've heard
eight ounces of the ash
of me is just enough;
i am a carbon unit,
yes,
and i can take
compression,
you sort me out
and take what's left
to make my
bright impression;
extreme jewelry
at psssssssssss
three thousand
hot degrees
supreme jewelry
at p-s-i
one million,
please,
i'm ready
for my close-up,
you can
put me to the knife,
you can add
some facets to me
that i never had in life!
i'm a new and
sparkling
personality
this time around
in my setting
you have chosen,
i am quietly
profound
to the gentleman in passing
to the couple, eyes agog
to the granny wearing grandpa
to the gal who sports her dog
i truly mean
no disrespect
to loved ones
hanging round
your neck
but
i am bling
i am bobbles
i'm a ring
colored sparkles
and now
for just a wee bit more
(I'm talking cash, here,
that's for sure)
I can throw a yellow glow,
or blue, if that's the hue for you
a half a carat rings in, friends,
(breathe in, blow out
you're fine)
at seven thousand
eight hundred
(gulp) and ninety nine*
*currency in USD at rates
in some decline
a Euro would go further
bigger gem - keep that in mind
and while you're at it
tabby's got that haggard
peaked look
i'm tellin' you, she's going down,
her goose is close to cooked;
i'm sure you'd love
to have us both,
a matched pair for your cuffs;
we'd set you off in style, my love,
we'd help you strut your stuff!
ashes to ashes
then dust to dust
if you'd rather not scatter me
squeeze me you must
compress me slowly
i've plenty of time
your tribute is touching
just make sure they're mine!

Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 03/31/08 at 03:52 AM Mmmm.. yes. And you've taken this on with a gemlike voice, I love the changes of tone and the pressured pace. Being a jeweler--though not a gem-cutter... this has a strong appeal-- and the intesity of transformation gives off a poetic glow.
Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 03/31/08 at 04:05 AM I love the hell out of that 12th stanza. It feels like an introduction, but it obviously plays perfectly right where it is. Great work.

Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 03/31/08 at 08:28 AM Oh, yes, yes, yes....I heard of this some months ago. Bravo to you for finding these excellent poetics within the story. A gem of a read! Thanks.
Posted by Steven Kenworthy on 03/31/08 at 02:19 PM psi one million please -----best line for sure. love the smirk flavor of it. a kind of wild write with tons of unique energy and directions of life. gonna have to read at least 2-3 more times, but anytime a poem has me curious...that usually means i like it and it has more flavor than the typical. good on you kw. :]
Posted by A. Paige White on 03/31/08 at 11:59 PM I've no idea what lifegem.com is, but you have assuredly made me curious with this tongue in cheek poem. "to the granny wearing grandpa" had me in chuckles. My sweetheart tells me all the time (and usually the most inopportune moments!)all he wants to wear is me so that line brings immediate great memories. Nanny swears she wears a pop, lol... thanks for that one line in particular for me to play with afresh, in this delightful read! Now I've got to go check out the website.
