reaction by Carissa DeweyI lay in bed tonight
a thick book in hand,
todays short walk
occupies a deep part of my thoughts.
There in an alley,
my father steps
behind me
and above the sky is
simmering yogurt orange pink.
it is silent, still and cold,
a drifting song from a church
streets away
follows us down this
aged back path
and you have cancer.
You talk of your surgery
of your weight loss.
And I can only cross the street -
Continue home.
