happiness

by Charlie Morgan

happiness i chased all my life;

down the narrow alleys of panties,
down the backs of hook-bra highway,
wanting the nubile to want me.

balancing my required reading of
catcher in the rye, tight skirts
between my ears and football.

a heavy transport for my 7th grade
when i could barely tote myself
into another excited moment of life.

Ah yes, the bulge of young years. I think I remember them or was that all a dream, a wonderful dream. Nicely done sir. I've tried catching the moment but haven't done it as you have.

7th grade - very exciting - I enjoyed your memories from that age. The "backs of hook-bra highway" is just a hoot. I can just see you as a 7th grader, going miles an hour! Thanks for this.

You transported me back in time Chaz. Too funny. I remember the bra snappers who were just annoying and I remember the bra unhookers who were infinitely embarrassing to some of us very insecure adolescents... and first crushes... and walking in the chilly fall nights behind the football stands and down the sidelines... what a mix. This was definitely a time machine poem for me. Thanks.

The hhok-bra highway reeled me right in and is every teenage boys nightmare at some point. But man, I was in high school my bdear man! You were a young starter out the gate... giddyup!
