so much for quitting

by Morgan D Hafele

I look to a brown-purple sky as
red from the setting sun catches
the smog like streaks on glass running to meet the night.
The praying mantis sits on my window sill, silent and still.
I wish him luck as
his competition, a leggy brown spider
rolls another catch in her warm, loving embrace.
It's like a pre-death, the form still functions, but
only to stay fresh.

The tree not far from my window
breaths with the wind, the green
growing deeper with the steady darkening of the sky.
I wish the day adieu and welcome
the stars with a bright, burning red star of my own,
and I cover my face in clouds.

this reminds me of that MTV clay-mation show Celebrity Deathmatch, simply with the image of a spider and a mantis, two deadly creatures, dueling to the death.

As much as I want you to succeed one of these days, I feel a little reluctant to encourage you to quit something you write so beautifully about...

You are one beautiful individual.

A vert strong spiritual piece Morgan, rich in imagery from the sky, insects, and your own inner workings. I love the metaphor in the last line.
