One Brave Soldier

by Tony Whitaker

Called to duty in life one day
to fight a war still raging away
His fellow warriors hold him dear
seeing a man who shows no fear
though his body’s battlefield
armed with cancer trying to kill

I've met men great and strong
this one stands among the throngs
though he it hurts to stand and try
from his war he does not shy

So this prayer
is for you my friend:

“Lord give this man Your Healing Hands
so he can live in peace again

with compassioned family and friends
until his final altar call
as one day you will for all
gather us from this life unbound
to live in love and harmony
in our spent life's
sacred ground...”

It's a beautiful prayer, Tony. I'll join my faith with yours and lift him before the great physician, where there is ever a great hope.

Ah! What a kind and lovely way to affirm this brave warrior. I love the way you get our attention with the brilliant title. I was foreseeing the obvious allusion but was delightfully surprised and touched by your poem and prayer - a gentle act of love for a fellow traveler. Well done, Tony. Thanks.
