1. beyond far rockaway

by Julie Adams

July 14, 2007

hours under the stars
blinking and reaching through night
the lunacy of experience
new moons born
among us

like nursing children
we gather, ritualistically,
round

         sky
sand         water
         sun
air            earth
         life

we celebrate the elements
on a blanket
on a distant strip of sand waves

***

night sprinkles into day
light wafting
from behind the dunes, saw-
grass slicing the peach
tones on a pale-palette sky
could only be a gift, a moment

dawn warms quickly
into morning

yawning eyes feel
the fingers of the sun
massage light on lids
recharge
the pituitary soul

and with day came
curious connections and
       afternoon predilections

***

yes, we changed the plane of life
affected change
with

           thoughts
patterns          books
            insights

communing through us

experiences, vast and various
traversing the globe
on a trail of thoughts
of electricity,
connecting, as we have

potential yet to be imagined
awaits
like the full moon that calls
to us
already a fortnight away

This is a finely woven piece, richer every time I read it. "and with day came curious connections and afternoon predilections" - indeed!

Sometimes rough is new and fresh...and far rockaway is an interesting place to have such refreshing new insights, being a Queens boy myself

"the lunacy of experience
new moons born
among us"
made this a favorite even before the nursing child in me gathered round with appreciative eyes the delicate thoughts given such poetic shapes. I'll be waiting anxiously for more installments on this series. A queenly jewel among jewels, what a delight you shine!

Daring layout! Really makes this "bounce"...and I like that! Excellent. Thanks.

I can feel the sun on my eyes, smell the salty ocean spray. What a lovely poet you are!
