blankets

by Mary Frances Spencer

another party
connecting threads
knits this

community
kindred spirits
multi-colored wools
red white brews
wine conversations
spilling over

warm breath
softly wraps us all
home
and gently floats
quilted clouds

crochet
a fuzzy net
around past present
unraveling

5th-dimensional
now

underneath time blankets
we continue
to unwind
the
yarn

Author's Note: I just got back from a party where we all seem to know each other from various pasts... interesting conversations! MFS

A warm refreshing party scene where conversations are real and the past is welcome. Wonderful knitting metaphor.

Very nicely done! I always find it interesting how when meeting past friends the stories always seem to increase the length of the yarn. Some memories fade while others find a new perspective. Nice write.

I love the the "knit" blanket of warmth, the various levels and weaves, the wine and breath--I especially like "underneath time blankets" which emphasizes that this goes beyond the ordinary, really a heightened experience shared among friends, as if they have time plled up over them, multi-colored and cozy, like children playing an important special game, and whispering while the rest of the world goes on as usual.
