Who am I, but I have always loved you

by Dan Kasten

Who am I, but
I have always loved you

your gentle touch for blackened eyes
ears for the hurting and prayers for the muffled

you create wisdom for those unknowing
and laughter for those who have forgotten the sounds of children

in our weakest moments
you have shown me nothing but kindness

in our strongest moments
you have helped me discover how other paths matter

taking the time to be patient and to tolerate failure
allowing me the opportunity to cement a thought that

in years forward with grey season waxing and vision poor
I will find you by the scent of your compassion for me

for that I am most appreciative and in awe of who you are
because you have made me who I am

who am I, but
I have always loved you.

"I will find you by the scent of your compassion for me" - nice line.

Yes, yes, yes....this: "I will find you by the scent of your compassion for me" is quite sublime! Great to read you again, Dan. Thanks.
