A rabbit in the moon

by Vikki Owens

We lay on our backs that night,
the grass was so thick I wanted
to press my face into it,
and I would have,
had it not been for the beauty of
the moon and the stars
and you.

I pointed and laughed at the sky,
so deep and full of millions
of galaxies,
of such richness we will never know,

you kissed me
full on the lips
to the witness of a thosand
silent distant worlds
and the rabbit in the moon.
