narcissism [at a glance] by Charlie Morgan
west texas winds lasso my ankles,
binding me to the city sidewalks.
bent forward i grab the breath
of each gust, until i hear, 'uncle!'
one more block, then i'm somebody;
now, just a man on the street.
picking-up my self worth as i walk,
i arrive at my office, full of me.
ahhh, this is how it should be!
me above, mortals below. righteous.

| Posted by A. Paige White on 02/05/08 at 05:26 PM Great take on narcissism, Chaz! The first two stanzas lay the groundwork wonderfully. |
| Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 02/06/08 at 09:36 PM I had to come back to this one. Nothing quite like a good chuckle at oneself, although I don't see anything wrong with a good helping of self confidence. I love the lasso on your ankles, the wrestling with the wind. Every line delights! |
