narcissism [at a glance]

by Charlie Morgan

west texas winds lasso my ankles,
binding me to the city sidewalks.

bent forward i grab the breath
of each gust, until i hear, 'uncle!'

one more block, then i'm somebody;
now, just a man on the street.

picking-up my self worth as i walk,
i arrive at my office, full of me.

ahhh, this is how it should be!
me above, mortals below. righteous.

Great take on narcissism, Chaz! The first two stanzas lay the groundwork wonderfully.

I had to come back to this one. Nothing quite like a good chuckle at oneself, although I don't see anything wrong with a good helping of self confidence. I love the lasso on your ankles, the wrestling with the wind. Every line delights!

I also like the "winds lasso my ankles" line a vivid picture.
