memory

by George Hoerner

do you remember

ah yes, you do

and did it well

what ever was required

you just knew

and when you didn't

you made it up

whether work or play

and love you did

and do you still

know those things

or make them up

as you go

just right

count yourself

among the lucky

for when you forget

just where or how

to place that kiss

or touch that hand

when to say yes

or when to stop

so much seems lost

and you ask

if you ever did

for when it all

seems wrong

the time the place

the kiss the touch

the words the worlds

the sun the sky

and all you do

is wrong or

just not right

I like how you open this. I think it lends a really strong voice to the proceedings. Nicely done.

This seems to me a tribute to the ability, the gift of improvisation, the memory of one who could no matter what, "you just knew and when you didn't you made it up"... the obssessive nature of the poem suggests how impressive that is in memory, how repeated an action it was and then perhaps that as time passes and a person changes... then we wonder...can they still do this, do they remember how they were, do they remember doing it, or is it only... in our "memory"?

Excellent poetics, spiritualism George. Reads like a universal anthem as it should.

"whatever was required"....its what we all aspire to, isn't it? This is lovely, George, and reminder to just keep doing our best, whatever that may be. Thank you for this.

I really like this. It flows so well. Masterfully done!
