Memorial for a Man

by Kristi Paik

I didn’t know you
but I met you one time
In the coffee shop in our neighborhood
You smiled and with your charming Aussie Accent said
“I’ll be sure to pass the message along” when I told you
That since you were married, tell Jake Gyellenhaal to call me

Your daughter sitting in her stroller, looking at me curiously
As I flirted with her daddy
I never would have guessed your demise
Would be a typical weakness
Found in Hollywood and on the streets

You were one of the few blondes I would ever go for

Such a talent wasted and lost
Along with the sea of others who
If they wanted to
Could have changed the world

I guess you and my father have the same weakness
I guess its true what they say
You always go for a man that is like your father
and now you leave this world
leaving your child behind to feel
the same hurt and abondonment
that I too went through
I wish now, you were different, as I wish he was
(for her and my sake)
I wish things were different period

Author's Note: Dedicated to Heath Ledger. I never would have guessed (you never can tell). I heard rather quickly he passed since he used to live with his family not far from me.

A great tribute to a great actor. Well done.

Wow, that's really sad. He was good too - superb work in Monster's Ball and Brokeback Mountain... Well done; great tribute to him indeed.

WOW! That was a really great story, told so well in poetic form. It is true that we tend to go or men who are like our fathers. My Dad was a good man with the soul of a hippie and I ended up marrying a man who reminds me of him. JFK would be proud- glad I looked!
