intertwining

by Melinda Sordino

through the day i sleep and
the nights i find myself
lying in the endless dark
next to the man i love
listening to his breath
and matching it to my own.

we are interwoven this night-
our legs and lives intertwined.
as he sleeps he murmurs to me,
calling out my name and
whispering dedications of love
into the darkness of my room.

in the white glow of the
full moon i see his cheek,
eyelashes long and brushing
soft freckled facial features
as he peacefully rests looking
like the angel i know him to be.

and though he sleeps and i don't
as the sun rises our roles reverse
my eyes closing and his opening
and for a second we are again as one
as i drift off into the land of magic
i wonder if he sees in me what i see in him.

You really bring a person to life here. Great language and imagery.
