A Better Name by Ken HarnischSometimes in the night
I whispered
Your name when it was
Impermissible of me
To speak it aloud
I am too old
To believe in fairy tales
Or happily ever afters
And though this is thought wise
In august minds
I always wondered if
A better name was fear
I suppose, at some wild time
I may confess my indulgences
Into fancy, and proclaim aloud
From my lips what my heart has known for years
Or I may succumb to both age and fear
And call it wisdom;
Then put it all,
As always,
In a poem.
