earth

by George Hoerner

oh earth what do you

desire of me

other than the returning

to you of my body

my energy barely sufficient

to keep me half aware

of my surroundings

so when i return to you

my smattering of elements

my pittance of energy

with all the other particles

pulled slowly together by gravity

but originally strewn through the universe

by the perverse Big Bang

are you moving us toward winter

and how many seasons

do you perceive

will there be just the winter of collapse

and another spring Big Bang

over and over or

will the universe continue

to expand into nothingness

I love the full circle of thinking in this piece, there is something so comforting and familiar, even in the question and the unknown...loved: "my smattering of elements" and "are you moving us toward winter/ and how many seasons/ do you perceive"...a pleasure to read this morning, peace and happy writings, *jewels*

George, I have no way of knowing, but I think, that the Earth desires that we be ourselves when we are given over to her, molt of all desire and pretense. I think the earth will love to welcome us in our original states and frames of mind in which it dropped innocently onto our parent's laps. I believe the Earth is asking that very question of the Universe. What will the Universe make of the Earth, when it itself is weary and ready for the heap?
