a gull's wooden cry (haiku) by Kathleen Wilson
a gull's wooden cry
at year's end
takes on new color
watercolor and ink,
photographs of my found and posed wood (different days and times)on a beach in Santa Barbara

12/25/2007 Author's Note: #5 of 60 in my series of personal artworks and haiku in response to haiku poets following an old tradition from Japan by sending a New Year's greeting card called a Nengajyou [or nengajô] to haiku friends who signed up to participate. One is free to use a purchased postcard – or one you design yourself. Somewhere on the card, we include the jyunishi (zodiac sign) for 2008 (the year of the rat) and the words *Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu* (Happy New Year). --mine are handmade and written each in response to the ones I receive. I might be late with some of these for New Year... but I think they will be appreciated. I love doing this.

Posted by Agnes Eva on 01/07/08 at 04:32 PM Oh yeah, I remember a call for participation on my haiku group for this tradition, but I had to decline due to baby needs this year. You are really making these lovely! I like this 'wooden cry' of the gull, very fascinating way of putting it. |
