A Sarcastic Thanks

by Tota Longmire

Thank you for protecting what wasn't there.
Holding it down solely by its imagined hair
To keep it warm, safe, healthy, pretty and fair.
I wanted to thank you for protecting what
Wasn't there because while you were
Busy doing that I had time to experiment.
Get hurt, bruised, battered, and actually live.
Now I am scarred, true, and you're not at all
Interested because I'm not innocent, but if
You hadn't been so preoccupied with the
Illusion of my innocence, then I wouldn't
Be me and I wouldn't have been alive and
Besides, you never really loved me anyway
Just my innocent looking face. Never mistake
An innocent face and naivety for innocence.
Naivety is just a lack of experience, that I
Happen to have now, thanks, I'm not sure
That the true innocence you wanted to find
In me exists anywhere anymore, but good luck.
