Brown-Eyed Baby by Tony WhitakerBrown-eyed baby
yester-year's maybe
forever
I'll hold this light
a candle
for my teenage
dream's delight
Eyes sealed sitting
waiting for the feeling
so still
as I feel
you turn me on
As I pace
in this place
and there
find your face
the space
sweet dreams
the in-between
Walk with me a while
stroll
miles of smiles
two sweethearts
when the world
was so brand new
I want to sleep
with you again
beneath heavens
star-struck night
exposing
what still holds true
the shape
of my restless
bleeding heart
So many came
some remain
all these memories
lose their pain
when we lie
side-by-side
in fields of gold
Where did
our love go
you took a turn
at the crossroads
sat a while
but each car
looked the same
Flowing gentle
through the clouds
you stood out
in the crowd
of rain drops
into a river
where I drowned
Can't get over
you cast me free
like a lost ship
adrift at sea
Brown-eyed baby
yester-year's maybe
forever
I'll hold this light
a candle
for my teenage
dream's delight

A tribute to my first love, Patricia Ivy from Dundee, Mississippi way back in 1972/73. Forever a legend in my time and in my mind. I will always hold this candle for you Patty wherever you are....

Posted by A. Paige White on 12/08/07 at 02:25 PM Quite a beautiful tribute! And I learned a new place in my home state. Dundee, MS. No clue where it may be, lol. I can only hope it's down in the marsh where the crocs splash ;-P
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 12/08/07 at 03:44 PM Definitely one of my favorites of your recent works. Nice flow and some very fun rhyming patterns.
Posted by Alison McKenzie on 12/08/07 at 06:29 PM The entirety of this speaks of innocence, and the value we find in later years as we realize how rare these experiences are in the whole scheme of things. Here's to Patricia, and how the touch of her in your life has blessed us with some amazingly brilliant expressions!!!
Posted by Brian Francis on 12/09/07 at 02:16 PM I like this peice. it brought to mind a friend (newly divorced and turning Forty) went in search of his first ever true love. He found her -- she was no longer the person he remembered (a druggie and a parolee) though his image of her will never change.LOL Peace --bf
