a moment in sky time

by George Hoerner

streaks of high clouds run
north to south down the valley
crossed by contrails making
a chessboard in the sky

the world reflected
people, places, things
on the squares silent
waiting for movement

events, only action,
missing from this board
all hoping for some
magical occurrence

all held in place
by inaction
this moment
timeless in the eyes

the races unable
or unwilling to
make the first move
to move time forward

unable to reverse
the positions taken
the world spins
on its axis

moving through space
around a sun
that doesn't care
through time no one

can measure

An amazing moment.. as if time stops and introspectively stares. No. That's you staring... in enlightened perspective. Love the chessboard analogy. I am sure it looked like that, felt like that. Excellent.

I wanted to see some of your writing, George, after you commented on mine, "The Dawn Shadow'. This is really good and it's like reading the landscape, so visual and spirited.

I could just imagine, George, when you first saw this image, how excited the implements to your expression must have gotten at the notion, that they would be put to the employ of capturing this incredible imagery for all of us to see and to feel how it must have been to be where you were at the time of its capture.

There is so much more than words in this... there is color, sound and emotion! Wonderful!
