Watch Me

by Harold Millican

Watch me

I want you to watch me
And see if you can keep your cool
Watch me
Just sit right there and view
Just let the events unfold and stick like gum on your shoe
Watch me, now
Just see if you can without scrutinizing me with the your countenance or your hand
Just view this picture and see if you can maintain your course
Without staging a separation or a divorce
Watch me
Just look at my mistakes
And just grab hold to something in the earthquakes
Keep your composure now
Because no one breaks you down like you
It isn’t me that’s controlling your joystick, making you look like an idiot and a fool
Truth be told it is really your bad, if you can’t watch me without acting out, having a fit, being sad
I shouldn’t have any control over your stressors and pain
You’re at the switch, you can either make the sun shine, or make it rain
Either you learn to control yourself when you observe
Or you need to go wait on that bus at the curb
There’s no reason for you to hold all the baggage in
If you got a problem, do something then
I’d avoid sad, worrisome people if I were you
They just make you a lot worse, taking you down with every foul word they curse
I would find positive friends, who love the bright side
Because watching me, your face and demeanor are turning to a mess
Why do you put yourself through so much stress, you sacrifice for others
And seriously hurt yourself, trying to do too much, go clean your closet, and straighten your shelf.

If you can’t watch me, oh I understand
You sure you don’t need someone else there to hold your hand?
What can’t you take it?
I am having fun at your expense!
Doesn’t it kill? the growing suspense
You’re so squeamish, thinking “Oh my! “What’s he going to do next?”
Yes, this is why it’s you I love to vex
Look you’re caving in under the pressure
Shocking huh, I hold your nerves in my hands
If you really work on yourself one day
Maybe you could deal like a stronger, wiser, woman or man
And you’ll know that you only need one dose
Ha ha! I bet next time you’ll think before you watch me so close

Great POTD! This really throws it out there, how we do or do not let other people affect us. Loved the gum on the shoe, the joystick, the in-your-face challenge. Thanks for this.
