death of a daydream

by Emily Tong

I was studying all
My dead ends in trigonometry
And trying to remember
The words to the song
That I forgot. I pretended
I knew what he was talking
About, but somewhere
Along the lines of sine and
Cosine I lost my
Place and gave up for
The day. Rather, I stared
Against the opaqueness of
The window, and wondered
Where have all the birds
Flown away to?
