Carving up October into Pieces - Part Deux

by Kristina Woodhill

the turkey
crouched low
lurking
in October's
pumpkin patch
felt safe among
the densely rustling
leaves
and breathed
at last

“this running's
for the birds,”
said he,
to open
faces there
a softly warming
glow surrounded
him
with friendly
stares

“i need to rest
awhile
i hope you'll
let me share
your patch
i've got a month
of Thursdays
to avoid
their deadly
snatch

i thought
we'd make
a dandy team
since knives are
what we dread
it's you they
want to hollow out
it's me...
well,
enough said...

so let's lay low
together
let these
two months
pass us by
we'll share a joke
of orange orbs
of birds that cannot fly

i heard a good
one yesterday
the gist of it I lost
but i wondered
if you know
the one about
a guy
named Frost”

Kristina this is great!! It reads quickly and pulls right in to the story. This flows so well. It would be a great intro to a childrens book!

It really is great! It immediately gave me an image of a much harrassed turkey throwing a wing over a friendly punkin...
