traveling

by George Hoerner

traveled east and west
on routes by tens
through Texas and Montana

looked down from
troubled water bridges
but it's the byways
that grip an imagination
like the byway blues

loved up and down
highway sixty-nine
survived a few wrecks
in which everyone lived

although i've watched
i've never ridden
the rodeo circuit
and know the friendly skies
are not as advertised

i won't stop this looking
until i've found you
again

even if we never find the one we are seeking, the journey, as you describe it so wonderfully, was well worth the trip. George, your odes are always worth the trip and more.
