a letter to a never born child

by Nanette Bellman

not even a twinkle in God's eye

not you.  nope, not yet.

but that doesn't mean...

you're not a thought in my head.

maybe i should tell you

all the things that would change,

all the good that would come

if i had you instead.

i am so honestly sorry.

for all the "false alarms"

you know, all the time i wished you away.

because if i knew it was this hard,

if this was the way it was going to be....

it would have never been that way.

and in this lesson,

the lesson of wanting,

what you can't have.

please know this.

i've learned it - finally.

so until the day,

you decided it's okay....

i'll be waiting patiently...

(with more than i know how to give....)

Yes, best to wait for when the time is right. This is a truly moving poem in its brutal honesty...and love. I especially like how you close off. Just a minor quibble of the typo of the word thought in line 4 of the first stanza. Otherwise a great piece, that will stand out in memory. Adds to favourites.

((HUGS)) this was touching, sweet, and a little sad, all at once.
