Mentor

by Sarah Boom

Breaking sticks beneath my sneakers

Loose grass blowing in the breeze

There are footprints embedded within this path

And they don't belong to me

An older, wiser spirit

Has graced this path before me

Clearing all the entangled brush

Just so I may clearly see

Though I have never met this person

A friend she must surely be

For I am following in her footsteps

And she has yet to mislead me

So here I've spent my days, following anothers path

paved simply using my faith, and her words alone

And it seems to me that with every step I've taken

She's led me to the path, all my own

Totally inspiring. The first three lines set a rich tone of imagery and I love where this path leads. What a good friend and mentor!
