"Buk"ing the Odds

by David R Spellman

I’ve doubled up
my bet.
It isn’t worth
it
any more;
chasing losers
isn’t
the way
to go.

My horse,
it broke
at the wire.
With hobbled legs
it fell,
then caught
on fire.
They extinguished it
along with
my wager;
the ashes spread
long
and far.

No one else
seemed
to notice
how
thin
I’ve
grown.

Humorous take on the questionable act of gambling--from my perspective.

Fun read Dave. Following the odds to the letter can make a bettor a better bettor.....Charlie

Nifty reminder of one of my favourite writers. I wasn't aware he was into horse racing. :o)
