From the Remnants by Ken HarnischHere lie the remnants, yes
But from these remnants you will build a wall
A wall mortared in your sadness
But stronger now
Because it will be the sinew of experience
That will bind brick to brick
And wisdom that will keep it strong.
From the remnants
You will build a tower
A mighty tower
Around which children will strengthen
And interlopers will
Learn
The price of savaging any
Heart you choose to call your own
From the remnants
You will build a fortress
And it will be your unfinished life
The one destiny has chosen to
Twist and turn in unsubtle ways
To remind us that we build
Our mightiest edifices
From our darkest hours
Then find the light
Of our remaining journey
