it was a frog by Peter Hsuit was a frog, a leaf, a trick of the light
that thing that skipped into my path
and floated out of it, into the dark
that liquid hour
when the luminous face of downtown
set sail on the stygian ripples of the sound
all the while
st. christopher sank his teeth into my heart
and when i'd dropped them off
dionysus held my tongue
as i ate strips of paper
and i was a toad,
a flower,
a trick of the night 09/30/2007 Author's Note: night, night.

Posted by Jim Benz on 03/14/10 at 05:56 PM little square blotter strips? This is good - the poem opens up more and more on further reads. I had to look up "stygian," but what an appropriate adjective that was. I'm going to add you to my friends list just so I can remember to come back and read some more. I really like your approach to writing. |
