Sweet Dreams

by Melissa Arel

Whispering to you softly as you fall asleep
Running my finger along your chubby cheek
Humming a melody about the stars and the moon
Singing 'I love you' with each heartbeats' tune

You grab at my face with your tiny baby fingers
Our eyes lock in an embrace, for a moment it lingers
Then your lashes flutter and you finally give in
So I lay you down gently, kiss your nose and your chin

Watching you slip into a deep, peaceful sleep
Of kittens, rainbows and plush cottony sheep
Makes me so very thankful that I am your mom
In a world of pain and turmoil, you are my calm.
