Melancholy

by Don Matley

the sun listens darkly now
eclipse reigns as the spectrum of life
she says the sun never fears, always shines
if it does, it does not for me

my days are dark, my nghts bright with gloom
I like the night and dread the day
the sun is not my friend
it clutters my mind's eye with too many sights
the sun has too many lovers
its rays consummate all that it lights

the moon is close to me
at night it shines bright in darkness
it is solitary, single and true to but one night lover

the moon listens always
needs not to be seen to be felt
makes not a bold and gawdy mark in my world
but slowly arouses lovers with a cool heat
spends not a fast and fiery fury

the sun listens darkly now
the moon always hears
keeping to itself what it knows.

I'm quite enthralled with your contrasts between sun and moon and how they make you feel. Your phrase - "my nights bright with gloom" catches me for a moment and I think about how the moon's glow makes me feel. I also like its "cool heat". You have made the moon quite intriguing here, especially with your last lines.
