I'd like to drift by Emily TongId like to drift, hollow shell that I am,
as the current longs, lengthens to the sea.
I could float to the rift of where sky and
waves collide and there reject gravity,
soaring beyond my gray sky barrier
to fill my emptiness with light. but here
I stand on the riverbanks, narrator
of timeless tragedy. my life, a fear,
a skipping stone across the almost-still
glass that is the water pulling me out
to the sea, the sea, the sea. a thought fills
my mind: ocean salt will drown my sense, flout
a crusted consciousness. and so again
I lose myself. and then
you call my name. 07/30/2007 Posted on 08/30/2007 Copyright © 2024 Emily Tong
