Mirror Image

Mirror Image

I look in the mirror, but don’t know you
Now even your motives are hidden from my view
And in your eyes lives the girl I always hoped to be
But she looks straight ahead and stares right past me

Crying for her song that’s gone unsung
And living a life over before it’s begun
Growing older with every tear
Feeling the pain of every year

And when she’s lost and out of sight
I wonder if I’ll make it through the night
Without her hope within my heart
I’m just a life that’s torn apart

Growing older with every tear
Feeling the pain of every year
And hoping that she could only see
Love, the way that it should be
And let it turn her life around
Find the courage to lay it down

And stop growing older with every tear
And feeling the pain of every year
that she looks away, never choosing to stay
to try to sing her song or keep holding on
to the promise she knows is true
that God knows the plans He has for you
And that He'’ll teach her songs unsung
And show her a new life just begun
In Him, in Him

And He’'ll dry her every tear
Take away the pain of every year
And in the mirror she'’d finally see
The girl He always knew that she would be

I think this is a beautiful poem, Robin! So relatable and simply touching. I esp. liked the lines "And hoping that she could only see/Love, the way that it should be/And let it turn her life around/Find the courage to lay it down".. these are words of truth! Love ya hun.. hope you're doing well..

Robin, you're singing the song that's been in my heart for so long. Universal to many, I would think. And yet, you end the poem with the message that God wants us to know, that God is always with us and loves us just the way we are.
