eating in the dining room

by Lauren Singer

and so your triad of miracles has failed you.
the definition in the silverware marks for
special occasions. we bring out the good china
and fold our napkins cross our laps
and whisper out our belches in attempts to say
everything is always this beautiful,
and everything will always be okay.

Perfect final couple of lines. I don't know. There was just a real force, power to their simplicity. Well done.

Well done. I love the definition in the silverware marks. This formal setting - that symbol of self control and acting civililzed. A nice contrast to what is not being said here.
