Sibling Rivalry by Don Matley
Curse you! Get up and salivate that knee-scrape,
You fell on your own and don't rat to Dad
Or we'll bury you in Maine sand head first
And let the crabs rip open your toes!
We could let you drop and the rocks bash your brains
The crimson blood in your salty blonde tresses
Would make Picasso proud
Oh you are so cute indeed and the youngest
But you'll pay for the attention you steal from us
We never get the eight millimetre footage that you do
No matter how sucky we feign
And maybe when we knock you down in cold snow
We'll leave you there to win an ice scupture contest
Inded, victorious and famous even in death!
................
Do you think we spoke too harshly to sister?
They say children can be so cruel you know
Nah,I don't think so.After all she did get more
saltwater taffy than us.
We'll be nice to her tomorrow.
I do love her. Really!
I know. So do I. But we don't have to tell her,do we?
Not on your life!

Posted by Genevieve Sturrock on 08/11/07 at 10:50 PM i have two children from marriage #1 who would cheerfully cut each other's throats for a nintendo game and in the next breathe defend each other to the death....the youngest, from marriage #2 is the baby and more spoilt by the older two than by me. funny how kids are.
Posted by Genevieve Sturrock on 08/11/07 at 10:51 PM ...oh yeah, your poem...made me gasp in horror and chuckle too. kids can be so cruel and so kind. parenthood is not for the weak of heart. :D
Posted by Glenn Currier on 08/26/07 at 07:27 PM I have to say tht I admire your chutzpah in writing this. I guess I should take it as a challenge to write one about the time I had a broken arm and used to hit my older brother on the head with the cast. Of course he couldn't harm me since I was his poor little brother with the broken bones. It is amazing that he didn't kill me. I was so "cute" and such a mischievous little chap. Thanks.
