unrequited

by Maria Francesca

I would hold her in my arms
and see to her every happiness
but she won't come.

I would shower her with sweetness and love
but she won't come.

Not for the most extravagant gifts,
Not even for my promise to keep it all mumm.
No matter what I offer,
No matter how I beg,

she simply won't come out
from under my sofa.

Author's Note: Brought home a cat from the pound; had no idea how apparently comfortable a cat can be in a three inch tall space.
