Dignity - acrostic

by Kristina Woodhill

Dignity deserves mention, quietly
inviting observers to pause and note a
game plan driven by a more
noble, measured stance
innervating and attracting others by
taking command of oneself, willing to
yield the floor, while choosing ones own dance step

Author's Note: A tribute to King Mohammed Zahir Shah, who died July 23, 2007, at the age of 92. He was the last king of Afghanistan, in power when my family had the privilege of living peacefully and productively in his country. He brought hope, peace, positive change to a fiercely proud people. He accepted a bloodless coup by a brother-in-law in the 70's when he was out of the country for medical treatment, and lived in Italy until the fall of the Taliban, when he was able to travel once again to his homeland and made "ceremonial father of his nation".

This is a beautiful tribute. Indeed, he was such a dignified man. I appreciate Jon's comment, too, and thank the both of you...

Then sings my soul, for I know you know of this person on a level I haven't had the access to. There are times when I feel that Dignity is a lost trait. And then comes a boost such as this character description. And then comes optimism refreshed. Thankyou, dear friend. This pours into me like honeysuckle rare and nourishing.

Very interesting how you've used this measured, "dignified" form to encompass this dear tribute. In itself it has a measured pace, with steps carefully chosen, mirroring the subject. My heart quickens when I see something added to your Afganistan folder, and I am pleased, as your unique insights and experience here are treasured by me and many.

Tastefully understated, as dignity instructs - a welcome piece of poetry, in portraying a positive facet of a state often represented as a place bereft of this quality. A favourite :>
