Sticks and Stones....but names can hurt me.... by Sandy M. HumphreyYou are
Such a boy
Sticks and stones
You may not throw
Yet the names
That truly hurt
Can often come
From your mouth
To my ears
Just to see if
You can evoke
Tears
Strike first
Then duck and hide
Feelings tucked
So intently
Behind denim eyes
Watching to see
If I will break
Then under
The guilt and shame
You carry
Anger against
My fragility
I am
Such a girl
Our inner
Children it seems
Do not play
Well with one
Another
So maybe we
Should try
To be adult
About this
And understand
The difference
Between playful
Childlike
And harmful
Childish
Behavior
Such a boy
Such a girl
Such a dilemma
