Memories and Fantasies

by Mike Loftis

She whispered songs no man has heard
since the time the world was born
to me
while in the shadows we made love
and turned the days we had
into eternity
We listened to the angels singing
as we danced to the music
of the DevilÂ’s band
Caught somewhere in between
ecstasy and the golden ring
someone else had placed upon her hand

Chorus:
She left me with memories
of what we had and fantasies
of what we werenÂ’t
but I wish we could have been
Some would say it wasnÂ’t love
but some would be wrong because
I still feel the same
as I did then
She taught me that yesterday
is always just a thought away
in my mind
Now memories and fantasies
carry me back to her
now and then

She never asked more than IÂ’d give
and never offered all she had
to me
In time we learned we couldnÂ’t turn
the hour glass
when it ran out of sand
We listened to the Devil singing
as we danced to the music
of the angels band
Caught somewhere in between
destiny and this crazy thing
that happens between a woman and a man

Repeat chorus

I like the Devil's Band and the Angel's Band, and the exchanging of both. And would like to hear the music. Or if it's in a minor chord or major? No matter what, this - I like! —Jill

"Some would say it wasn’t love but some would be wrong because I still feel the same as I did then ..." ... I love this line. How can anyone else dictate your own feelings to you? I do wish I could hear this with music. Since I like it already, music would only make me like it more. Congratulations on your POTD.

Wow! I see a concert in your future. Just a small venue, say... Carnage. This one’s got it all, Mike. Congratulations on becoming The LoveSick Poet Of The Day.

There are some beautiful lines in this one, Mike. Wish I could hear it! When this folder is turned into a CD I want a signed copy.
