you are what you eat by Jim BenzI am
a hard-crust baguette a sour orange a chunk of old cheese growing mold, but
I metamorphize
into a wild-caught filet of salmon, soaked in a marinade of olive oil cumin and lemon juice, broiled over a bed of hot coals
I transform
into a fresh slab of multi-grain bread from Rustica Bakery, smeared with butter and honey, washed down with a glass of cold milk
I transubstantiate
into an organic salad of beet greens and lettuce tomato and egg, green pepper, aged cheese and an onion
I am
a beer and I am satisfied. 06/21/2007 Author's Note: soon to be published in Word Riot

| Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 06/22/07 at 12:24 AM Mmmm you don't often ask for suggestions, so I'll be good and have some... with your appropriate title, that gives an unusual perspective on introspection... I would be tempted to push it further right from the start and say, something like "I'm the day/ nothing more than a hard-crust baguette..." and then carry on on as you do, to the end-- and finish with "I'll drink a few ales/ and be the night..." or something like that? |

you are
an applepoet
ripe fresh and juicy
I am thirsty. I drink this. Now, I am happy. |
| Posted by Alison McKenzie on 06/26/07 at 09:42 PM If the relevance of what each food meant, it might add another dimension. And, how long does it last? Are you a flame-broiled whopper forever, or does the watermelon you eat the next day drive you forward to bliss? These are things I want to know!!! Infact, I HAVE to know them.....hehe. |
| Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 06/27/07 at 04:04 AM Well, heck, I'd like to hear more about the beer, for example. Is this a many course meal of one sitting? or does that even matter? |
