Backtracking

by Sandy M. Humphrey

One step
forward
Two steps
Backtokcab
Do I turn around
Reverse the spell
Trekking backwards
Into a not so distant past
Some faces change yet
Not all and situations
Seem the same it seems
As if ghosts remain
Calling to me
Are they beckoning
Or are they omens
Warning me
Of impending danger

Thought provoking. Reminds me of a recent conversation with a friend in which I noted it seems every new person I meet I've known forever, as if there are so many faces and souls; God merely picks us all up like dice, gives us a shake then throws us onto the table of life for the next round of learning...perfection.

Effective use of symbolism. A bit ominous. Uncertainty pervades the feel of this poem for me.
