a chase through the night

by Marlon DeLeon

I’'ve never seen this place before..
as I looked around I saw her walk away.
I took chase only to trip on my own two feet,
got up and brushed myself off.
amongst the shadows I saw her silhouette
I ran to take a closer look
arrived too late to catch my breath
called a cab and took it home
watching the city lights rush by
thinking to myself "Maybe she's the one?"
paid the cab for that lonely trip home
oh lovely winter... so cold i could see my breath
went to open the door just to find it unlocked
her scent lingered in the air. my mind playing tricks on me
until her scent disappears I’'ll smoke my cigarette
it's getting late and I can't get her out of my head
shower and a drink to make thoughts fade away
glance at the mirror I saw the reflection of her face
her presence keeps haunting me
chasing her for answers to questions unknown
her face slowly drifts away as I wake
fell in love with a girl that I’'ve never seen before
she's just a dream that feels too real
till it's time for me to sleep again
until 4 past midnight sweetheart
sunset to sunrise
I'’ll catch you then
don'’t forget me

Sweet dreams could be the title to this poem.

too bad we can't live in dreams where we always get the girl and where girls are not permitted to break your heart. its a capital offense for a girl to fragment your heart in reveries.
