I Never Wear White by Therese ElaineI never wear white
The crisp perfection
Of the spectrum
Has never flattered
Me
As though it senses
My
Contempt
Oh I grant
That theres an appeal
For such clean
Nothingness
Its all the unmade mistakes
Waiting to never happen
I never wear white
It reminds me of death
Blank
Nothingness
I feel haunted
At the sight of it against
My skin
It shows every flaw
My scars deeper
My bruises darker
Every line and angle
Made
Offensive
By such glaring purity
White is a reproach
For every indiscretion
Every dirty word
Every soiled sheet
White is every cheap hotel room
Every empty promise
It shows every imperfection
Like evidence
For a trial
I never wear white
Its smug and self-satisfied
A Cheshire Cat smile with cream
Too good for naughty fingers
Too fine for wandering souls
It reminds me of defeat
Surrender
It reminds me of what was
Taken
Plundered
Forgotten
White is always noble
It shines through the shit
Of supposed
Self-sacrifice
No unmade maid like me
Could hope to keep it
clean
I never wear white
Or perhaps
Its more
That white
Wont wear
Me.

Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 05/29/07 at 12:54 PM WOW! Talk about self revelation and self negation! Very powerful in its emotional impact! Very sad as well! |

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 06/18/07 at 04:32 PM I've suggested it for POTD also. :o) |
Posted by Nicole D Gregory on 02/06/10 at 10:27 PM I will make a pact to never wear white with you. When I do the dance of the 7 veils... I will wear all the other colors; and when I box ... I wear red gloves so that the damage doesn't show. I will be your friend and never wear white... unless... no... I will always be your friend. ;) ~N |
