Where I Need to be

by Thomas K. Hunt

One road leads and branches into three
You can take the left or right
Leave the middle road for me
Place me in the center
Where Mary crosses John
Shine the stars above me
Turn the northern lights on

Rock me gently roll me slow
Feel the summer breeze blow
Drifting in the morning sun
Basking in it’s glow
Drifting as the river runs
Not caring where I go

Walking through the autumn
An explosion of color
Natures portrait
A landscape like no other
Taste, smell and feel the very first frost
Take me to my river
Let me get myself lost

In the ice and snow
Blind me in the white
May the north winds blow
They're the only winds that bite
Warm by a fire to chase the chill away
Lost on my river for another winters day

Lost on my river
Knowing right where I am
Waking eyes, from a dream again
My river holds me
It’s where I want to be
When I’m on my river
I’m am truly me

Only in my dreams
I seem to find my way
Only in my mind
I lay back and drift away
One day you’ll find me
Right where I need to be
Lost on my river
With myself and only me

Yes, Thomas, we all have dreams we're following and hope will find us. I think each of us has a special place in our mind where we feel safe and know that this is where we can be ourselves - free from the world's critique. Each road that we follow has either an end or another fork. Maybe it's only for us to choose how each road will turn out. Beautiful!

I love this one! Not just for the lyrics but for the music that I could hear with the words... Beautifly Done!

I have had many a winter, dreamily alone on my own river. This poem is beautifully written.
