in pulling away

by Chris Sorrenti

in pulling      away

with curtains closed
windows slightly ajar
reminder of where
soon we must return
arms and legs
wrapped tightly
transform into roots
drilling down
ever farther
into the rich humus
of our togetherness
to happily harvest
what can never be
separately

until in reluctance
no choice
but to accept
the position
of second
minute
hour
purposely hidden
in pockets
and drawers
so we can fool ourselves
for a little while at least
that time stands still

our bodies
still humming
from the dance
slowly adapt
to the sting of band-aid
being pulled away
from tender hearts
a souvenir of healing
we take with us
where clocks
and watches
out in the open
happily remind
that soon
we can close the curtains
leave the windows
slightly ajar
and with time
once more locked away

hmmmmmm... this one is quite an interesting introspective piece you have penned... gives us all something to think about... and about the value of living in and celebrating the moment...

Very sweet trysting scene... Very poignant. Very real in our never ceasing quest to stop the hands of time to savor the special and spectacular.

Ha! - my first, unconsidered reaction was that this could have been entitled 'In Playing Away' :) In less frivolous terms, your words bring me home to recognition that it seems increasingly rare for people to find, or even welcome, the opportunity to share private, intimate, unscheduled interludes. CCTV/digital capture, reality TV, 24 hour news, blogs, journals, podcasts, cell phones and pagers...one is company, but two falls short of the ubiquitous crowd. So, a welcome time-out here for me - I assume there wasn't a webcam running on this episode :) Time is space...

Hi Chris. The language her is delightfully spar, and the subject matter tugs at the mind and well as heart. Much, much enjoyed your write, here. Thanks.

"Our bodies still humming from the dance" Exactly. I love the rooted plant comparison, the fertility of it all....I especially love this feeling which you have described so well...

"... the sting of band-aid/being pulled away/from tender hearts...." - my favorite line. Very sensual and a little poignant, but with a lovely resolution - nice economical use of language, too - well done! d:-)

it never stops does it... but pretending it's locked away is fun... i just wish it didn't always catch up.
