Through The Wardrobe

by Christel Crews

Further up and further in
The calling to go deeper
Pressing on past the familiar
Into the hazy unknown fog
Taking the adventure that befalls us
No matter the timing
Nor the inconvenience

Glancing back to yester-year
Seeming thousands of life times away
Memories of Golden Ages quickly fade
Must I turn my back to all I've known
And begin afresh?

Simply taking up the armor
I was given
Stepping through the open door
before me
Into a world of images, characters, customs
I can not comprehend

And yet I am determined to not
shrink back in fear or practicality
I want to live up to the challenge
To be brave again
And answer the call
Knowing that once in,
There is no turning back

Author's Note: its my last night at work teaching for who knows how long and i'm finding these next few months to hold more change than i can honestly handle... and yet, i will push through, some how, and say goodbye to what has been my life for over 6 years... if you've caught all the Narnian quotes, hats off to you, there are at least 14 references :-) these books have helped me face this new season as an adventure, one to be excited about and not to fear

I think this poem's a good indication that you're going to be just fine. Really well done.
