we are Lions.

by Steven Kenworthy

ten to one, months melting deserts everybody at the social knows
we,
through it all and
are,
rather indestructible at the gambling table hunting every large number
insight.
i had a feeling when you visited, i had the animal instinct. driven
automobiles counting the stars back from august the jungle where

survival of the fittest. takes place. first blue place ribbon

intuition, senses blaring. faring
only the strong smile fearless in
the hotface of risk like this

add it to the list.
this
to be or not to be scared with you safety always tastes closeby
i can roar and chase
bloodied mouths &tear apart the head
present dinner [i will lead and never give up until our stomachs are full.]
present the odds to the safarijester,
he will have his laughs
peel back the skin
we, will

have

our

teeth

showing.

you are afterall my pride. queen of the proud of you of the king of us, life.

is good.
with you, i rip to pieces the demons & worship
the sun &God who thinks we will inspire
more mirages unlike lions and hyenas. battling

back down to never neverland where fantasies
things like

kill or be killed anthem.
you are my favorite song ever
my radio for you will never fade
and the volume cannot hurt
my ears.

Author's Note: it feels good to be fierce right now and taste blood on my lips.

the last in the series of survival. long distance for dinner. love conquers all.

I love how in this you transform the usual always into the unusual, (even as in your note..)or adding on another unexpected level... as in "instincts driven/automobile". "Every large number/insight" is another... really fine wordplay, outdoing yourself. I like "strong smile feareless/in the hot face of risk" too... We're always -in the face of- but the "hotface" goes beyond (and also connects with the smile...) The last stanza is such a finale...I don't think anyone has said "my radio for you will never fade" before...I love the exhuberance and the raw animal "pride". Wonderful expression.

This moves and breathes with an almost staggering ease, sir. One of the best pieces I've read in a while.

I like the part about blood on your lips.. wish it was in the piece :) nice though, it's in your staggering flow, which I love

I love the fierce, yet controlled, flow to this - the pride, the jungle feel, the "to be or not to be..... " line, and I particularly like the "teeth showing....". Makes me just want to roar!!!

Simply gorgeous sweetheart -brilliant imagery and a fierceness that I can definitely relate to.
