Wales

by Dave Fitzgerald

Half past four in the morning I stroll without care.
The distinctive aroma of fresh bread floats on air.
The still-hidden sun brightens distant sky
As the trees fragrant blossom sails lightly by.

I walk to the bridge that crosses the brook.
And pause there a moment to wonder and look.
Majestic in green, principality fair.
I feel suddenly lonely, this view should be shared.

Here ancient woodlands are ancestral homes.
Where warrior hearts carried stories in poems.
The national anthem makes the shortest man tall.
This beautiful nation, Great country so small.

I am not used to a seious piece from you. I really like this- wonderfullydescriptive; I feel like I am standing with you. This piece is a beautifully painted picture.

Isn't it a marvel, the feeling of sudden loneliness because of wanting to share a view, a mind-bending moment, a sense of utter gratefulness?
§ You shared this with great eloquence. §

How very impressive to read of one so very patriotic.... I only wish more in America conveyed the same pride and respect for this great land of ours... aloha

Form and content here merge, the central stanza being the bridge we stand on to view the rest, and the lonliness of that solo view inspiring the last beautiful spill of tribute and expression. The first stanza inviting, and early, allowing that epiphanic moment you've shared, heart full. Even the morning's "distict aroma" full of baking bread and the mental silence that creates these feelings... unforgetable.

I came looking for your News Blues this morning and found this. It really stirs my soul and makes me want to wander the hills and dales there to capture this feeling. Your rhyme is so delightful. "Majestic in green, principality fair." - This line is absolutely marvelous to say out loud - amazing what a few well chosen words can do to a piece. I will continue my search for News Blues. ;)
