Clipped

by Maureen Glaude

these wings are clipped
my travels only in my mind

but I cover miles
of transition

and make ample treks
back and forth
to the same places

friends zoom out
across the country
or to exotic places
in the Caribbean or
Central America
sometimes on business
other times, for relaxation

the farthest I go is to Spanish class
once a week for two hours
that take me to all the latin-speaking
countries and welcome me to a
different way of life and culture
and new friends

or I go to dinner on special occasions
and to whichever workshops I can manage
the “I” of me not important right now
so much as what she can do for another

the traveler in me can wait
like the pet-owner and seeker of
home renovations does.

I can give back to
the one who gave me life
who cannot travel either now
or enjoy true quality of life
but remembers it all like yesterday
and wishes it for me

I like the voice. You always seem to have a great talent for that.

Beautiful! This is so softly vibrant... like pastel silk....... *hugs*... Glad I found it just before bed... it will bring me good dreams! Thanks
